Why we made this
A lightweight, three-season tent, the Duolight is perfect for hiking in the bush and in warmer climates — comfortably supporting two people and their gear.
  • Product Description
Engineered for minimal weight, optimal space and weather protection in New Zealand conditions, the three-season Duolight balances comfort with practicality. Designed with a waterproof, factory seam sealed UV20™ PE fly and 40D nylon ripstop floor, this tent keeps you dry in the wet season and comfortable in warmer climates with internal mesh maximising airflow. The Multi-Pitch™ system offers ultimate versatility when it comes to uncertain weather conditions, allowing you to pitch the both the fly and inner independently of each other. This way, you can choose to reduce weight and fly camp in the summer months or take the full set up for extra warmth in the shoulder seasons. We're also pleased to supply DAC Featherlite NSL™ poles with the Duolight tent — these poles are developed through DAC's 'green anodising' process which helps to minimise toxic chemicals in the production process, which is better for workers and the environment.
  • Design features
Two person tent with two-pole/one ridgepole Multi-Pitch™ design
Waterproof UV20™ PE fly fabric is factory seam sealed (1,200 mm hydrostatic head)
Lightweight ripstop nylon floor fabric is waterproof with DWR C6 finish (10,00 mm hydrostatic head)
Waterproof 'tub floor' design to eliminate need for separate footprint
DAC Featherlite NSL poles for strength and stability — green anodised to help minimise toxic chemicals in production process
Dual vestibules/entrance points for easy access and sheltered gear storage
Extensive internal mesh for improved airflow
Internal stash pocket and lamp hook

We have had this tent for over a year now for its weight it is very spacious we can fit two people and both packs inside the tent with room to spare.
We took this on a week long rafting trip with not Issues or breakages preforms will in windy conditions.
However, it is a light weight tramping tent and therefore has light weight plastic clips that I worry about losing

Light, roomy, Fiddly
Very Light and Roomy, but decided to return because the pole connections were fiddly and to easy to lose a specialised connector. The tent is not a real 'multi pitch'.

Good for double tent or going solo

Ultra light, ultra spacious - but will it last?
The good: it’s lightweight, spacious, easy to assemble and the double pitch option is amazing!
The bad: it feels cheaply made and I’m not sure if it will last. Nearly all components seem very flimsy. Especially the points of attachment of the tent poles / fly seem not fit for purpose: they’re plastic press-until-it-clicks connectors, which are bound to wear out / break. Only time will tell though!

Response from Macpac
Hello Guss, Thank you for you review. The tent is designed to be lightweight, therefore the components might have that feeling, but this is a part of the design, as it is all build with the purpose to keep the tent as light as possible - this is build with material designed to last. If you have ever have any issues with the tent, please feel free to contact us. Kind regards, The Macpac team

Customer C
100% recommend Macpac Duolight Hiking Tent!!
I would highly recommend this product to other fellow outdoor enthusiasts. I have not had a chance to take it out on a trip yet, but I assembled it at home to check it out. Very easy assembly, and I really like the multipitch idea. It means the tent is completely opened out whereas some cheaper tents can be very saggy. Very roomy too and love the idea of two doors to avoid annoying the other person to go to the toilet during the night. Great size of vestibules to fit gear as well. I'm excited to test it out in the outdoors!

This tent continues to blow my mind after 2 years of use. It's incredibly light, two people can split it and carry around 1kg each. Big vestibules either side for gear and boots, but the inside is roomy enough for packs as well. The short horizontal pole across the top stretches out the sides of the tent and makes it very spacious and comfortable inside, you could even fit 3 people if they are fine with being cozy. Has been used in the snow but for high wind alpine areas you need to face the shorter side into the wind.
Woke up at 5am in the Royal NP to torrential rain and a 4cm puddle forming under the tent - it felt like a water bed and we were totally dry! Dragged it up the slope a bit and went back to sleep ;)

More than exceed expectations!
This tent stood the test under a straight 7hr 8mm downpour. At 6°c, we couldn’t feel cozier inside and huddled in our overland 400 sleeping bags. Absolutely no leaks and condensation on the inner tent, we slept comfortably against the rhythmic patter of raindrops. We used a 20cm high double air mattress, and still had enough room to sit 2 bagpacks and 2 cameras. And omygoodness can I just rave about the pockets! If you are settling in for your sleep and wanna put away your glasses, rings, watch, book.. this pocket is so helpful. They come with 2 at each end, depending where you rest your head, so each camper gets his own pocket. Convenient and so useful! Setting up and keeping of the tent is a joy, and can easily be done by one person.
Easy to clean too, rinse and hang under the shade, all dry and ready to pack in <24hrs!
Can’t sing enough praises and will definitely bring it on every trip with us! Wish there’s a 4-man tent for this series!!

Brilliant job Macpac. Again.
I’ve been using an Olympus and Minaret, supplemented by a Fairydown (for the old timers!), for the last 30 years. The Fairydown has been retired and replaced by the Duolight (same specs & shape but much lighter).

It has handled Tasmania’s Reserve and South West without hassle, and the advances in technology over time (especially cutting weight) are phenomenal. It is probably the quickest and easiest pitch I’ve come across.

[The only observation for improvement would be to beef up the spares kit: the more plastic parts, the greater the risk of something breaking. Suggest a spare Jake’s Foot fly connector, at least, and guy cord cleat. ]

This is a genuine top quality tent that, for its design parameters) can handle most three-season conditions with ease and with plenty of room. [For those who are quick to complain about the size of any tent, buy a bigger one and take the weight gain.]

Brilliant job Macpac. Again.

The perfect tent for us
My wife and I were looking for a simple, good quality tent for overnight trips, not planning to go out in the snow or harsh conditions. This tent is perfect for us: every aspect is well thought through, elegant design, spacious and light, easy to erect and pack away. Our first night out, it rained heavily so that a rivulet formed under/around our tent; nonetheless, we remained completely dry inside. Highly recommended.

Great tent, very happy with purchase
Purchased the duolight prior to Christmas. As I am not a small person, 103 kg and 186cm tall, I needed a tent that had enough head to toe space to be comfortable, light enough to carry when I am trekking on my own and quick to pitch. The added bonus was Macpac were having a 40% sale when I was considering my purchase. Clearly the tents were popular as they sold out in store and on line very soon after I purchased my tent. The tent was erected in store so I was able to make sure it was going to have the length I needed and all other features were evident. Took the tent out for a 'test run' to Marramarra National Park and it was excellent. The compact size of the tent and poles meant I was able to pack it inside my Back Pack. Pitching was quick and easy and as I was on my own had plenty of space with ample head and leg room. The internal pockets were very handy as well. A nice bonus was the aluminium tent pegs, a bit different to the old heavy steel ones I used to lug around. Equally easy to lift up and shake out the few leaves etc I had accumulated during my stay and packing up was effortless. A few weeks later, my wife and I used the tent for a short car camping trip and she used a blow up single mattress and I used my sleeping mat beside her. It has been a horrendously hot day (43c) and the benefit of being able to have two openings in the tent and fly meant we were able to capture the cross breeze that sprung up later in the evening. Whilst there was not a lot of space left over once we put our bedding in the tent, it was still perfectly suitable for the two of us. My wife is also a tall person. Have not pitched in the cold / wet as yet but I am sure that will be on the cards soon enough. For the moment, the tent has exceeded my expectations and requirements.

does this tent need a separate footprint?
Michael G on Dec 10, 2019
BEST ANSWER: No. The floor fabric is thicker & more durable than most other tents. Obviously still clear site of sticks & rocks before erecting tent.
