Why we made this
A tested and proven expedition base-camp tent, built for people who require warmth and space in the world's harshest places.
  • Product Description
The Hemisphere tent has been refined through hundreds of expedition climbs and is proven to reliably support climbers and explorers, whether they are in South Georgia or the Himalayas. The Hemisphere tent is built around a geodesic structure. With six poles and eight pole intersections, the tent is designed to provide maximum liveable space, while remaining stable in high winds and heavy snow loads. The fly is constructed with UV30™ PU, our premium fly material that gives continued strength under prolonged UV exposure. The floor is built with our legendary Torrentwear™ XP tub, design for maximum waterproofness and durability. With two enlarged vestibules equipped with storm flaps, there is plenty of room for sheltered entry, cooking and gear storage. Because adequate ventilation is crucial with prolonged use, we've created a six-vent system that encourages airflow and manages condensation without compromising insulation. To control the temperature inside the tent across seasons, the tent features a fully removable inner-fabric roof panel, extending comfortable use into warmer months. The Hemisphere is designed to support four people in alpine or polar conditions, through all four seasons.

Great tent, well made.
Brilliant tent, easy to put up, plenty of room.
Great features and has kept us dry and warm on many occasions.
would be nice if Macpac could do an add on cover/fly sheet to make a bigger area at the entrance, for cooking and sitting.

extremely robust in high winds; first time set-up a bit of a challenge
I needed a strong, roomy tent for a base camp dwelling in the very windy Falkland Islands and the Hemisphere really delivered. I found it to be an excellent shelter from the frequent gales and foul weather that predominate in the subantarctic and it had plenty of room inside for all my gear. Even though it was difficult to find a space between tussocks that could fully accommodate the tent's footprint, the Hemisphere was still secure in high winds. The insect-proofing was also well tested by the many fleas from nearby penguin nests that tried - and failed - to get at me while I was inside. The only thing stopping me from rating this 5-stars is the set-up of the tent. Although I have a lot of experience setting up a variety of different tents, I found the Hemisphere took a little more thinking to figure out how to properly erect it. It may not have helped that I was doing this solo, but with a little trial and error, it set-up smoothly and, most importantly, securely. This is a small quibble and once you are familiar with this tent it is not an issue. I will rely on the security of the Hempishere as a strong shelter for many more trips to the subantarctic.
