I had recently got the Ember vest, it arrived new and was nice and puffy. So I ordered the Ember Jacket, unfortunately when it came it had been worn, was not nearly as puffy, felt like I had been given old floor stock that no one had bought!! So beware Ember Vest fantastic, Ember Jacket no where near as good.

Response from Macpac
Hello Stephen, thank you for your review online. It is highly likely that the jacket has been in it's compression sack for a few months from factory. Please give it a few weeks, to fully puff / loft up. If you have any on-going concerns, please do take back into your local Macpac store and the team will be more than happy to assess for you.

Thanks the Macpac Team

Sooo warm and comfy, worth every $
I could not be more stoked with this jacket. I live on the NSW south coast which is around 10 degrees through winter and I think this jacket is perfect. Zipped up it would easily be warm enough for 0-5 degree weather with just a cotton shirt underneath. It’s also really soft and feels like you’re surrounded by pillows. I Bought the black one and it’s slightly darker than the photos but looks really great. I’m 183cm tall and am fairly fit and I have quite broad shoulders - I usually wear XL shirts just to get a slightly loose fit around the chest but after reading comments recommending smaller sizes I bought a large jacket and it fits perfectly! I think it’s a good idea to get one size smaller than you usually would order.

A little too extreme for me.
This jacket is very high quality and the materials used are second to none - two kinds of Pertex and water repellent goose down, plus a range of excellent features and exceptional warmth.
The drawback for me is that it is also very bulky. It is obviously intended to be used soley as an outer layer, and there is no hope that my outer shell jacket will fit over the top.
The fit is somewhat loose and baggy. I am normally an athletic size medium, but the medium in this jacket feels like a large - both in terms of looseness and length in the arms and torso. It will however provide great coverage and allow for thick layers to be worn underneath, although I cannot see this being necessary as it is so well insulated.
The jacket is described as being built for hiking and climbing, but i feel that it would be far to hot for any kind of physical activity. The insulation is lofty and thick.
It would be great in very cold (snow storm) conditions, but for everyday use I would not recommend it. I will be returning it, and buying something a little lighter and more flexible.

Incredible Jacket.
Had this jacket for about 3 weeks now.

Originally purchased the halo down jacket. Was disappointed - didn't feel as thick & warm as expected. Returned it, paid a bit extra and got the ember jacket with a better down/feather ratio and heavier weight.
Incredible warmth and snug fit. Feels very 'cushiony' - as if you are being hugged whenever its on. Hood is detachable and very thick. Definitely good against the cold Canberra temps and wind leading up to winter and have worn it to work and outside the house everyday. Spend the extra money and you won't regret it.

High quality And Cheap
I got this a few days ago, for this winter in australia and from what I heard it's the warmest jacket macpac has in stock so I brought it. And It's pretty good. Down Side is the size choice is really resticted Other down jackets have normal xs - xxl This one only goes Xsmall, Small than XL. Other wise the jacket will be perfect.

Gold star.
It's warm and the materials has bit if of structure which is a bonus.

We initially bought the Halo, despite the review. it was quite light weight. So glad we returned it and got the Ember!

Bought online, returns ware fussy. had to drop it off instore or pay for shipping. Otherwise, happy with the product.

The coldest week of my life - ever.
First jacket like this I have ever had - and I bought it for minus 20C temperatures in Mongolia. It worked really well. Warm as toast. Would like a little more room around the neck to allow me to fully zip it right up while still wearing a neck warmer. But maybe I haven't quite got it set for my size yet? Ulaanbaatar is very very dry; we saw no snow or rain just frigid temperatures and blue skies. So I cannot comment on waterproof qualities. Looks good. Many Mongolians wear longer coats and another 10-15cm length may have merit for this jacket. But for me 5 stars. A very good buy.

Great jacket!
Amazing. Light-weight. Smart-looking. Only improvement I'd make is make it collapsible into a carry-bag/stuff-it!

Love it!
Love this jacket! Saw some bad reviews on another site regarding MacPacs customer service and quality but they were fantastic. Got my order within 2 days and the quality of the jacket great. Really happy with MacPac and can’t wait to get into some colder climates and really test out this jacket.

What is the length of this jacket? I'm 6"7 and would like to know if the size impacts the body length of the jacket.

is this seam sealed?
Bolts on Jul 6, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The majority of this jacket is made from Pertex Quantum, which is not a waterproof material. This is not a raincoat, treat it as an insulation only jacket. Only the hood and shoulders are made of waterproof Pertex Shield, not sure if they are seam sealed but I wouldn't want to test it out.

**Macpac edit - this is not seam sealed**
Does this come in XS?
Royston-Luke H on Jun 6, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hi Royston-Luke,

Thank you for your question.

At this stage, the size small is our smallest for this particular style jacket.
