Product Care

To ensure you get the best out of your Macpac garments, we recommend following these washing and care instructions.

Caring for Down Jackets (including PrimaLoft® products)

We recommend you read the care label attached to your garment. Follow any specific instructions. Unless otherwise stated or if you cannot find the instructions, we suggest the following:

  • Wash only as necessary
  • Warm hand wash in Nikwax Down Wash Direct or natural soap
  • Do not bleach
  • Do not use fabric softeners
  • Handle with care when wet
  • Rinse well by gently kneading the down
  • Dry flat in the shade initially then dry on low heat several times to separate the clumps of down
  • Do not dry clean

Caring for Rainwear

We recommend you read the care label attached to your garment. Follow any specific instructions. Unless otherwise stated or if you cannot find the instructions, we suggest the following:

  • Machine wash at 40°C (warm) on gentle cycle
  • Use Nikwax Tech Wash or a similar technical wash
  • Do not bleach
  • Do not use fabric softeners
  • Cool tumble dry
  • Cool iron
  • Do not dry clean

Occasionally, you will need to reactivate the Durable Water Repellent (DWR) treatment on your Pertex® or Reflex™ garment. To do this, tumble-dry your garment on a low heat setting for 30 minutes.

With extended use, you may need to reapply the DWR treatment to your garment. To do this, we recommend Nikwax TX Direct or Nikwax TX Direct Spray. Follow this instructions on the bottle.

MERINO CARE

For products made with 100% merino wool, including our 150 merino thermals, 210 merino thermals, and 180 merino t-shirts.

  • Cold hand or gentle machine wash at 30°C
  • Use Woolmark approved detergent
  • Do not bleach or spot clean
  • Do not tumble dry
  • Cool iron if required
  • Do not dry clean

Care for Sleeping Bags

We recommend you read the care label attached to your sleeping bag. Follow any specific instructions. Unless otherwise stated or if you cannot find the instructions, we suggest the following:

  • Hand wash your sleeping bag carefully: rough handling can tear the interior baffles.
  • Do not machine wash
  • Do not dry clean your sleeping bag
  • Fill your bath with enough lukewarm water to cover the bag
  • Use Nikwax Down Wash Direct or natural soap and work the soap suds in gently
  • Do not twist or wring your bag
  • Rinse two or three time, or until all the suds appear clean
  • Rinse a final time to remove all traces of soap
  • Drain your bath
  • Press your sleeping bag firmly but gently to remove as much water as possible
  • Support your bag entirely when carrying it, to prevent any damage to internal baffles, caused by the wet and heavy down
  • Dry your bag naturally over a period of time: lay it flat on the floor to begin with and once partially dry, hang outside
  • Using a large commercial drier, tumble dry your bag on a gentle cool cycle
  • Do not use a household dryer

Note: The down may clump together in the drying process. These clumps should be broken apart gently by hand, or if a drier is used, place a tennis ball in with the bag to prevent clumping.

Packs, Tents, and Equipment

We recommend that you clean your products with warm soapy water, use a cloth or soft brush and rinse thoroughly with clean water afterwards.
