Why we made this
Engineered for the weight conscious, the Fiord 1.1 40L Hiking Pack leverages over four decades of pack building expertise to combine performance with traditional hiking features.
  • Product Description
The Fiord 40 1.1 presents lightweight performance that doesn't compromise on durability. Made from hard-wearing nylon and Cordura® fabrics, this hiking pack features an extendable storm throat for greater overload capacity on those longer hiking trips, yet with side and top compression straps you can easily modify the pack for comfort while carrying less gear. Mesh side pockets offer convenient storage for drink bottles, while the front mesh pocket and additional bungee attachments make it easy to shed and stash layers in between rain showers. The HeliumLite™ harness features breathable mesh and is easy to adjust for individual comfort — as is the lightly padded hip belt — making life easy on multi-day hiking trips.

  • Care
You are best to clean your pack with a natural, non-detergent soap and a soft-bristled brush
Suitable soap types are: pure soap, vegetable soap and Nikwax® Tech Wash®
Rinse the pack well and dry it in a well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight
Do not put your pack in the washing machine as this will void your warranty
Always try to keep the zip teeth clean — wash with fresh, clean water and lubricate with a silicon lubricant suitable for use on fabrics
Do not tumble dry, iron or dryclean

I can recommend this pack. I have had a Fiord for a couple of years now, but I have only used it much this summer. I have found it big enough for multi-day trips, with a summer-weight sleeping bag. The size makes it light. I could keep my long weekend load down to 9kg including a light tent and water, without feeling I had had to leave anything out. It is very convenient in the bush as it doesn't snag as much as a bigger pack and its easy to get on and off. The harness is light but comfortable and the extras (especially the hip belt pockets) are very convenient.

So is this a 40 or 49L packs
? (with reference to the 9L lid and overload capacity).
Michael L on May 17, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Found this on the Macpac NZ web site: The bag itself is 40L if just filled to normal height, but if you loaded the full roll top and lid you get an additional 9L.

Kind regards

What is the recommended maximum weight for this pack to carry? From both a durability and comfort perspective?
Robin M on Aug 26, 2020

Thanks for your your enquiry.

This would depend on the users comfort levels however we would generally recommend a maximum load weight of around 12kgs.
