Excellent - worked out just fine
I took this combination travel bag on a 5 week humanitarian mission to a developing country with average mid-30s temps. It worked out great. Easy to wheel around airports. Balance is just fine with a full pack (wheeling or standing), the odd shape is obviously designed for this. Volume was perfect for me, I packed it as full as I could and it was still only 20-22kg. Strong reliable zips that flow easily. Enough varying sized pockets everywhere you would practically want/need them. I did not need to use the backpack straps afterall yet (sorry, can't help with review there), but they were very comfortable when I tried it on in the store (empty) with all the ideal strap adjustments you would expect from Macpac for a comfortable short hike if needed, for a combination travel bag. Just one comment though, the inner lining of the black one I had was a burnt orange kind of colour - seems like an odd choice as it doesn't go with any of your other travel packing accessories, Macpac, garment bags and toiletry bags (which I also use), so could you please colour coordinate for others, Macpac, (consider from both a female and male perspective), thanks Macpac. I shopped around carefully where I live and this product stood out as best overall.

I bought this bag after dithering between it and the 55L size for several days. The 55L was just not big enough but the 80L is, as I was afraid, far too big. It is pretty heavy when empty and although for a 1 month trip I had it less than 2/3rds full it was still 18-20kg. Full it would have been more than 25kg. The problem with the bag is that it is too long so that it is impossible to lift it high enough by the top handle to stop it bumping on stairs. Also the bottom is too wide and it can't be folded down to squeeze under train seats or into confined spaces where a smaller or softer bag would easily fit. What I needed was a middle size between the too small 55L and the huge 80L. It isn't likely that I will use this bag again going forward after finding it so awkward on the first extended trip. An expensive mistake.

Awesome, strong & Sturdy pack
Love it. The ability to luxuriously wheel the bag around when travelling from place to place is brilliant. Then when you reach some stairs or a crowd, you just chuck the bag on your bag until you're ready to roll again. This bag has been with me for 4 trips around Japan and has more than enough compartments to make everything easily accessible. I looked at other brand name bags when i was buying a 2nd one of these trolley x backpacks for my girlfriend, but none of them had the same quality or comfort as the Macpac version. Well worth the dollars spent.
