Why we made this
Developed in partnership with the New Zealand Alpine Team, this technical softshell is designed for climbers who need a jacket that will survive days spent at the crag and on highly abrasive summer alpine routes.
  • Product Description
A lightweight alpine softshell, the Mannering combines premium Pertex® Equilibrium stretch fabric with an innovative climbing design to create a flexible protective layer for summer hiking and mountaineering. With a unique double weave construction, Pertex® Equilibrium is bluesign® approved and offers a tightly woven outer face to protect you from the elements, whilst a more openly woven inner face helps to move moisture away from your body. With a short-chain DWR C6 fabric finish for light water resistance, the Mannering remains light and strong for technical climbing, while the slim fit aids low volume layering for freedom of movement in the mountains or at your local crag. The bluesign® certification confirms this fabric, Pertex® Equilibrium, has been manufactured with the responsible use of resources and the lowest possible impact on people and the environment — it's a certification we're proud to have and are currently working on expanding across our range of equipment and apparel.

A trusty jacket for the outdoors
I don't usually give anything 5 stars, but I do for this jacket. I like the fit of the jacket, as it looks smart and is functional at the same time. The arms are a good length and allow for good movement whilst climbing. It is a lightweight jacket, and great to put in your bag as a mid layer or outer layer when you're outdoors. I love wearing this with my Ria black pants.

Fantastic flexible softshell
I purchased this jacket a few months back and have loved the versatile nature of it. Unlike other softshell jackets my movements aren't restricted in any way, which has been fantastic for adventures of all kinds, from walking to climbing. Haven't tested this bad boy in an alpine environment yet, however it has helped me stray dry throughout many unexpected showers.

Satisfied occasional weekend hiker
Certainly does what it promises for hikes and scrambles at the weekend and is extremely comfortable and in the blue colour way also good looking with it.
I am not an alpinist so can’t comment on that next level of performance

Does this jacket give much warmth?
Dayna M on May 17, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hi Dayna,

No, this jacket is designed as a windbreaker. When appropriately layered with a base and midlayer it will cut out the cold and add some (small amount) insulation.

Kind Regards,
The Macpac Team
