Macpac Pisa Polartec® Hooded Jacket — Women's
Why we made this
Active insulation for the mountains, the Pisa is lined with Polartec® Alpha® Direct with 78% recycled content for an outstanding warmth-to-weight ratio, increased breathability and reliable moisture management.
Active insulation at it's most versatile, the Pisa Polartec® Hooded Jacket utilises advanced fabric technology to directly warm your skin while maintaining a high level of breathability and managing moisture build up. Lined with Polartec® Alpha® Direct synthetic insulation featuring 78% recycled polyester content, the Pisa is a core product of our Alpine Series — our premium technical collection designed in partnership with the New Zealand Alpine Team (NZAT). Originally designed for the U.S. Special Forces and now helping to keep mountaineers and alpine adventurers warm and comfortable in harsh environments, Polartec® Alpha® Direct minimises weight by sitting directly against your skin and removing the need for a drop liner. Effectively regulating your body temperature during low and high intensity activity, Alpha® Direct offers superior breathability and dries fast. Wrapped in a bluesign® approved nylon ripstop fabric with a short-chain DWR C6 finish for improved moisture repellency, the Pisa is lightweight and packable — tucking into it's own pocket for lighter climbing or hiking. Bluesign® certification confirms these specific fabrics have been manufactured with responsible use of resources and the lowest possible impact on people and the environment.

Great light weight warm jacket
Love it. Not as padded as I thought it might be when ordering unseen online, but it is warm and comfy.

Practical: 2 jackets in one lightweight package
Disclosure: I'm a Macpac ambassador. But honestly, this jacket is an excellent cross between a fleece (see my review on the Alpha) with a light nylon cover. Two jackets in one and breathable and lightweight. I've been wearing it for alpine days - both rock and glaciated. If it's lucky, it'll get a spin up Aoraki soon. I'm 166cm/62kg and the 10 fits perfectly. Good pocket placement and I'm a fan of the thumb loops as I suffer from cold hands - the more my wrists are covered, the better.

Lightweight and so warm
I'd seen the Pisa in stores, but hadn't been drawn to it. I've traditionally been a downie outdoors / fleece indoors kind of person. The Katoomba store folk (they're very nice) convinced me to give it a try and I was super surprised. So lightweight and so incredibly warm. Without the bulk of a fleece, the Pisa is comfy around the house or on cold days in the office. I like that it can be squished into small spaces in my pack and is synthetic vs down, so chucking it in the washing machine after a big adventure on the track and then straight into the dryer is an absolute bonus. I now take Pisa as warm layer option 1 in my backpack. Would love to see more colours in future seasons! Even though I'm a Macpac Ambassador, I would buy this jacket even if I wasn't.
