Why we made this
A versatile mid layer for days in the mountains —whether it be climbing or other activities, this super light active insulation will keep you warm no matter what.
  • Product Description
A versatile mid layer for days in the mountains, whether it be climbing or other activities, this light active insulation will help to keep you warm. Made from Polartec® Alpha® Direct — the same insulation that was originally made for the U.S. Special Forces when they needed an advanced insulating fabric in their combat uniforms — the Nitro offers pared back performance. An evolution of fibre, Alpha® Direct eliminates the needs for a backing fabric and can be in direct contact with skin or other fabric layers, increasing breathability and reducing garment weight. Designed with alpinists and multi-sport athletes in mind, this minimalistic mid layer is warm and incredibly breathable.
  • Design features
Polartec® Alpha® Direct insulation for weightless warmth (contains 78% recycled content)
    Highly breathable and fast-drying pullover
    Regulates core body temperature
Super packable, rolls into its own hood
    Discreet elastic thumb loop
    Slim fit

Warm but no pocket
I was fortunate enough to be given this top however at the same time a guy also got the mens version and i noticed that his top had a pocket on the chest. This one doesnt. I am really tired of mens clothes getting pockets on clothing items and women not due to 'styling'. Same thing with pocket positioning with the fitzroy jacket where the mens have pockets placed on the chest where pack straps wont interfere but the womens version has low pockets that can get in the way of hip straps.

The top is very warm for its weigh, isnt sandfly proof.. Glad to see macpac are moving away from making womens clothing teal coloured.

Outstanding! Women's size 10 works in place of Men's XS
It just doesn't look that special but it really is and I love it! There's no Men's XS available so I took a chance on the women's size 10 in black. Fits great as it's pretty straight and not too flared at the hips - I can wear a Brynje base layer underneath and it fits close, as it should. It loses the useless pocket of the Men's version which I'm happy about. I've used it as lightweight insulation whilst running trails and overnight fastpacking. I heat up and sweat in most layers but this thing breathes like nothing else! If you're a horrible sweaty person like me this is a game changer. So many products claim to be breathable and I've tried many of them and most fall short - the Nitro doesn't. I'm considering buying another one as I love it so much!

Best thing I've ever purchased
This top might not be the most stylish thing in your wardrobe but it will be the best performing! By far the best investment I've made. I carry this with me now on every mission. A great warm layer, super lightweight and excellent keeping you cosy and feeling dry in all conditions. Including tramping in a downpour when my raincoat wasn't really repelling water any more this kept me happy & warm.

Best mid-layer out there
Disclosure - NZAT Brand ambassador
There's a reason all the brand ambassador's are reviewing this top. It has one purpose - provide warmth at minimal weight - and at this it is second to none.

It cuts the pockets and windbreak from the Pisa leaving only the warmth providing inner. Great in the middle of winter, on alpine summer routes, or as an emergency backup when trail running.

Buy this top!
Disclosure: I'm a recent ambassador of Macpac. However, this top is the bomb. Super lightweight so carrying it is easy. Cold and damp? - pop this thing on, cover it with a windproof layer and you are sorted. My partner also bought one and has worn it every day for 2 weeks on a 6500m peak in Nepal. Apparently he smells fine and he's been warm and cozy upon high.

hi, i just bought this mid layer. it's very sheer. I was wondering what was the best layer to wear underneath without interfering with the insulation properties of the fabric?
cheers

BEST ANSWER: Depends on the weather. I usually wear it over a t-shirt, with a jacket on top. I love my Nitro hoodie, the fabric is somewhat sheer, but so warm as a layer! I wear it with the dark blue Alpine Series jacket with the same fabric lining, this is super light yet perfect temperature control.
Is a women's size 16 roughly the same size a men's medium?
Andrew G on Feb 26, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hello Andrew,

No, a size 12 woman's would be equivalent to a size 12 woman's.
