Why we made this
With a comfortable load carrying harness, the Cascade 65L AzTec® Hiking Pack has been a favourite of New Zealand trampers for decades.
  • Product Description
The Cascade is an iconic Macpac hiking back that’s faithfully served generations of explorers around the world. A tough workhorse that’s engineered for both comfort and durability, this 65 litre hiking pack is an ideal choice for multi-day adventures. The Cascade has a clean and functional design that incorporates our Liberator™ harness system — this harness provides support and stability as well as effective weight transfer through to your hips and legs for easier, moderate load bearing. Made with robust and weather-resistant Eco AzTec® 8 oz. canvas fabric with a 500D Cordura® nylon base, this pack is constructed to survive abrasive environments and unforgiving weather. It features a large main compartment with an internal base compartment divider, dual ice axe (or walking pole) attachments and it's hydration compatible.

My last Macpac was a Cascade. Anyone care to weigh in on the pros and cons of Cascade vs. Torlesse? Both 65LT and I'd definitely be getting the Aztec version ... so what's the advantage of going Torlesse over the classic Cascade?

Macpac Torlesse 65L AzTec® Zip Hiking Pack
Macpac Torlesse 65L AzTec® Zip Hiking Pack
BEST ANSWER: Hi Mark,

Depends on your preference.

Biggest differences are the front opening (like a travel type pack) on the Torlesse that will give you greater ease of access at camp. Whereas the Cascade is a traditional top loading style (can be easier to cram stuff in).

The Cascade is designed to handle heavier loads than the Torlesse..

Cascade has more Canvas over the pack shell than Torlesse so tends to be more hardwearing over time. The Torlesse is more of a hybrid using 630D cordura on the sides etc.

Thanks,
The Macpac Team
Does the cascade have an opening for a water pack tube to come through?

Also the Aztec says it's waterproof, is it advisable to still put a rain cover or should the pack handle any weather?
Fadii on Feb 2, 2021
BEST ANSWER: Hi Fadi,

There isnt a gap in the back of the pack for the tube, but you there is one from the main compartment, through the top divider and can then put the tube through the side, between the lib and main compartment.

The Aztec material is only water resistant, so a rain cover is recommended if using in the rain.

Thanks,
The Macpac Team
